Save the Date….or else!

You’ve gotta love YouTube, it just throws up all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff everyday!  Today, one of my twitter buddies tweeted about this unusual Save The Date – they filmed a youtube video spoofing action movies!

A hot trend for 2010 is for more and more couples to be using some form of video in their wedding – a music video style montage with photos of the couple growing up, and their relationship is becoming quite popular.  Maybe this Save The Date video concept will take off in Ireland too, who knows?!

The Perfect Place for the Big Match

GAA fans will delight with the news that Croke Park Stadium has put together a fantastic wedding package for couples who want to have the perfect venue for their “big match”.  The venue was available to book for private events previously and they have held a wedding reception there before but they have recently been registered for civil ceremonies, so you can now actually say your vows overlooking the hallowed turf.

Bridesmaids dresses shouldn’t be a problem – think your county colours!

Venue Hire of the Players Lounge, catering for up to 120 people is €1,975.00 and you can exclusively book out the Hogan Mezzanine, catering for up to 300 people for €2,500.00

As part of the package, the stadium is working in partnership with The Croke Park Hotel which is only a stones throw from the stadium, to offer a complimentary Bridal Suite with 10 rooms booked for the couple.  Accommodation rates from €99 B&B, subject to availability.  You can download the full wedding brochure here.

Doggie Friendly Hotel

People are pooch-mad these days and more and more couples are living together and getting dogs before they get married.  If you are holidaying with your partner, there comes the inevitable question…what are we going to do about the dog?  Well now your canine companion can enjoy 5 * luxury along with you as the Hayfield Manor Hotel in Cork City is now offering Kennels for their 4 legged guests!

2 purpose built kennels on the private hotel grounds ensures that much loved dogs can now experience the same 5 star hotel service that their owners enjoy.

Here’s what the hotel have to say:

“Your dog will be housed in their own private kennel, cozy and warm underneath a fresh pile of blankets.  Attentive hotel staff will ensure that your dog has a constant supply of water, and of course keep them well fed with twice daily meals delivered to their kennel.  To really treat your pooch, why not order them a treat from the ‘Kennel Service Menu’, where you can select for them juicy bites such as gourmet sausages.

Sounds pretty swish, eh?!  And for the couple that long for their dogs to be involved in the wedding, the Hayfield Manor Hotel also does weddings if you do insist on having a doggie ring-bearer!

Wording those invites…

Wedding Invitations can be tricky business, and getting the wording just right is very important as you want to get the pertinent info in there, make sure whoever’s paying for the wedding are named and also set the right theme for your day (formal, relaxed etc)

Came across this handy little tool: an Invitation Wording Wizard where you answer a few easy questions about your wedding and voilá they come up with the appropriate wording for the invites.  You can get them printed from that site (there are a selection of templates to choose from) or you can just take their ideas to your own printer.  Easy peasy!

VBlog Episode 1: Meet the Bride

This week we meet the Bride-to-Be herself, Liz Killeen and hear about how herself and her fianceé Steve met!

Fill the Honey-Pot

I have to hold up my hand and admit I am not a fan of cash in cards for wedding presents.  I know, I know people don’t want ten toasters, and others think the idea of a gift registry/ordering gifts is a bit cheeky and tacky.  But honestly, what is more crude than cash?

There is a new concept knocking around, dubbed the “HoneyPot“, where wedding guests can contribute towards the cost of the honeymoon for the couple.  In this way, they don’t have to go buying gifts, but don’t have the stigma with how much cash to put in the card on the day either.  From the couples point of view, they can pay for the wedding themselves and have the amazing gift of a holiday from their guests.

MyHoneymoon.ie is a unique online wedding gift registry enabling guests to give couples the ‘Gift of Travel’.  Here’s what the company themselves have to say about it:

Honeymoons make ideal gifts and in the present age where many couples already have their furnished house, pots, pans and Waterford Glass, we thought it would be of benefit to an engaged couple to enable invited guests to give the gift of travel online as a direct contribution to their honeymoon. We simply tailor-make the honeymoon, then create a free online honeymoon gift registry which allows them to direct their guests to the site above.

Wedding Guests and friends can make their monetary gift online and couples have full access to all payments. Couples can give as much or as little information on their honeymoon as they wish and all gifts are acknowledged on line.  For example, they can specify which tours and trips they want in their package and guests can buy them specific experiences eg. bungy jumping etc.

The company also offer special gift cards on which couples can write their unique access code and include in their wedding invitations.  From the day the registry is created, guests can purchase gifts. The account tracks all of the gifts and their givers for easy thank-you’s after the dream trip!

I like the concept and I have talked to a few other brides who do too….what do you think?  Comments below please! :)  You can find out more info on www.myhoneymoon.ie
