A Family Affair at The West Cork Hotel

Nadia and Aaron celebrated their marriage last month at The West Cork Hotel in Skibbereen.

Their intimate wedding pictures were captured by the talented Emma Jervis.

We think this quote sums up Nadia and Aaron’s special day perfectly!

Marriage is the weaving together of families, of two souls with their individual fates and destinies, of time and eternity – everyday life married to the timeless mysteries of the soul – Thomas Moore.

This wedding was truly a family affair. It is easy to see from these sentimental moments captured throughout their nuptials that not only is this couple smitten with each other but their six-year-old daughter Alice is the apple of their eyes.

Once we saw these photos, WeddingDates HQ could not resist asking Nadia and Aaron to feature on our Real Weddings blog! The pair’s fun-loving nature shone through in each shot and their unity as a family made this ‘shabby-chic’ themed wedding a really special day.

Of course it was love at first sight for these lovebirds! Nadia was out at the local nightclub in Skibbereen where Aaron was a bouncer. She cheekily asked for a spin home and they haven’t been apart since.

The pair’s journey to the alter began with a proposal in Cork City. Nadia had no idea Aaron was about to pop the question. To her surprise, during a romantic meal, her dessert was served with the big question written in chocolate on her plate.

“After he got down on one knee I realised he wasn’t joking and I said ‘Yes!” They celebrated at the glamorous Penthouse Suite in the Clarion Hotel and drank champagne for the night.

“Walking down the aisle and finally getting to see Aaron was one of the highlights of my day. We have never gotten up in the morning without talking to each other, so being excited to see him was an understatement. Even if my dad did walk too fast that I nearly fell on my face!”

Nadia and Aaron met their talented photographer Emma at The West Cork Hotel’s wedding fair.

“We just clicked and had a great laugh with her, I really felt she understood what we wanted our day to be like. Emma’s personable attitude made everyone feel comfortable in front of the camera. My favourite picture was in the blue bell field, even though it was raining, I was so happy and knew I would be wowed by Emma’s images.”

Their choice of wedding venue was an easy decision! Being from Skibbereen, they would often go to The West Cork Hotel for Sunday lunches and family occasions.

“From the get-go we always wanted our guests to be as relaxed as us and by choosing The West Cork Hotel it meant less of a journey from the church to the reception meaning we would have more time to be around our family and friends.”

“The staff really went above and beyond for us! I could not fault them. From our wedding planners – Trish and Elaine to the waiting staff, bar staff and chefs, they all did a fantastic job. Everyone said the food was five-star quality!”

Here at WeddingDates HQ, our favorite shot from the festivities is of little Alice saying grace before dinner. How cute is she! It really captures the essence of them as a family and how they included Alice in every step of the wedding process.

The beautiful bride fell in love with the first dress she tried on. And she looked radiant as the newly-weds twirled around the dance floor to Kodaline’s The One.  Nadia’s pal James Keating, owner of Karisma hair salon on Skibbereen, changed her hair three times throughout the celebrations! “Even though I  was standing out in the rain it still looked amazing. He really did a fab job!”

Nadia’s advice to couples planning their wedding is: “Do not stress! And enjoy the whole process!”

“Aaron and I would share the same idea on creating memories from experiences. At the start of planning it can be easy to be bombarded by all the bells and whistles you can have on the day. We both agreed from the start it is about us becoming one in front of all our family and friends that we love.”

The chilled-out duo even went on a trip to Garnish Island in Glengarrif with their bridal party the day before their wedding!
