How To Beat The Heat At Your Summer Wedding

Sizzling summer sun is the cherry on the ice cream for many brides as they celebrate their special day.

However, many couples make the fatal mistake of failing to prepare for the disasters that come with extreme temperatures. Here’s how to beat the heat at your summer wedding.

Beat The Summer Sun

Pretty Parasols

Parasols are officially on our list of lust-haves! Not only are they a great idea to provide shade for guests attending an outdoor ceremony, they instantly add a touch of vintage glamour to your wedding photographs.

Speak with your photographer in the run-up to the big day and discuss your wedding shot list. If luck is on your side and our shores are hit with a rare heat wave, be sure to avoid taking your wedding snaps during the hottest part of the day.

The heat will be uncomfortable and sticky during these hours and the intensity of the sunlight teamed with the camera flash can result in unsightly shadows and over-exposed images.

Emergency Bathroom Kit

God forbid even using the words emergency and wedding in the same sentence! But this kit will throw your guests a lifeline when trying to cope with the summer sun.

Mini bathroom baskets are easy to make at home prior to the big day. Our top tip is to begin collecting bits and bobs in the months beforehand and your stash will swiftly build up.

Make sure to include these essentials to help beat the heat: insect repellent, sunscreen, make up blotting paper, deodorant and wipes.

Happy Feet

Your guests will thank you for frantically bulk-buying flip flops in Penneys like a maniac.

Those skyscraper heels were perfect in theory but once the temperature cranks up a notch it’s our trotters will suffer.

Flip flops are the perfect solution for swollen feet, leaving your guests free to dance the night away. If you are feeling really generous you might even splash out on some fluffy socks!

Hydration Station

Keep those drinks flowing! Refreshing lemonade, palette-cleansing cocktails and bevies on ice are the only way to avoid dehydration in the scorching sun.

However, be sure to limit alcohol until after the ceremony. You want your guests to actually share your memory of the special day.

Lighten Up

Many brides forget to factor boiling summer temperatures when choosing their wedding dress.

Opting for lighter fabrics such as chiffon, charmeuse and tulle will save you a lot of stress throughout the festivities.

You will be free to move around and mingle with your guests and can wave goodbye to the sweat and stickiness that comes with wearing a heavy-weight fabric in the sun.

On Trend Tipis

Quirky relaxation areas in the shade and tipis are all the rage for summer 2015.

Tying in with this year’s biggest trend; the rustic wedding theme, these tents are a fab way to keep your guests sheltered from the sun and add a bit of personality to your day.

Finally…The Icing On The Cake

We all know the scene. Robin Williams posing as the infamous Mrs Doubtfire as he face palms a cream cake to hide his identity.

Well, we seriously don’t want you to experience the trauma of your iced creation melting and sliding all over you when it’s time to cut the cake.

If there’s one thing you take from our Beat the Heat blog, please, please remember to choose the correct icing!

We recommend fondant, it is lower in fat and stabalised by gelatine making it the best choice for holding up in the heat.
