Bert & Ernie Kinda Love: Andrew + Barry At Clayton Hotel Limerick

After bonding over their nerdy love of Buffy the Vampire Slayer back in the day, these two formed a firm friendship that was destined to develop into something more.

Often compared to Bert & Ernie, Andrew and Barry themed their wedding day on being the best of friends.

Beginning with their customized Converse shoes, a colour scheme of blue and green was incorporated into their suits and accessories. The lovable Sesame Street characters even made an appearance on the newlyweds’ phone covers and wedding cake.

Embracing all things tech, Andrew and Patrick raised the bar with a social media savvy celebration. A combination of screens were set up around the Clayton Hotel Limerick to accommodate their wedding day hashtag which ignited a friendly rivalry between tables as guests battled to get the best pictures of the day uploaded.

These two are legit couple goals!

The Proposal

“We were dancing the night away with friends at an event in Limerick on New Year’s Eve. It was 2010 and Ireland had taken its first step towards equality in recognition of same-sex couples by enacting civil partnerships into law. We both knew that night that we wanted to spend every New Year’s Eve we had together. So almost in synchronization, we decided together as a couple that we would also take that next step.”

The Venue

“Choosing Clayton Hotel Limerick as our wedding venue was an easy choice. We always knew that when we were to get married that it would be on the same weekend as Riverfest in Limerick. It also would be the night of the fireworks down by the river. We wanted all our friends to come and experience the weekend in the city as it has always been a firm favourite of ours. That is what drew us to venues in the city centre that were by the river. But what set the Clayton apart was how we were greeted on our first meeting and it made such a difference. The team were just as excited as we were and we felt that we were among friends right away.”

“As a couple we can be quite quirky and wanted to bring that personality to our wedding. Everyone at the hotel really got on board and helped us with all the details. The setting was perfect and beautiful! The guests are still raving about the food years later. We could not compliment the venue enough on what they did to make our day as special as it was.”

The Photographer

“We adore our photographer Emma Jervis. We met with her down in Cork through a recommendation from a family friend who was also a photographer. It turned out upon meeting Emma though that we all knew each other from Limerick years earlier. She is fantastic at what she does and is very personable and accommodating. We loved the photos she captured and were so happy that she was part of our day. We would recommend her to anyone looking for a photographer. She is amazing!”

Special Moments

“The entire day was special to us from start to finish. Everyone we loved was in one room celebrating with us and you can’t ask for more than that. If we were to pinpoint a moment it would be out on the balcony overlooking the river that evening, dancing to the music as the fireworks filled the city sky.”
