How to Store Your Wedding Dress

Finally, you found it. The perfect wedding dress! It hugs your every curve and makes you feel instantly beautiful the moment you put it on. It  took a lot of time and effort I am sure, but I think we will both agree it was worth it!

After all the time that went into finding your ideal wedding dress, it would be a shame to forget about it and have it thrown in at the back of your wardrobe for months or perhaps even years after the wedding. This is THE most important dress you will ever wear in your life so it deserves to be looked after! Here I have some tips to help your wedding dress remain in immaculate condition for years to come!

Get it to the Dry Cleaners

The sooner you get your wedding dress to the dry cleaners after the wedding day the better. Whether it looks dirty or not I can guarantee you it is! The longer the stains remain on the dress the harder they will be to remove as they will set. Try to drop your wedding dress at the dry cleaners before you go on your honeymoon or perhaps ask a family member if they could do so for you.

Store it in a Suitable Box

It is best to store your dress in a box rather than hanging it as it can eventually loose it’s shape. You can buy storage boxes made especially for wedding dresses. You’ll also need acid-free tissue paper which you should place between each fold and again on top of the dress. This will prevent any discolouring of the dress.

Keep it Hidden from Direct Sunlight

You should store the box in a cool dark place away from any direct sunlight. Underneath the bed or at the bottom of your wardrobe are usually the best spots. Don’t be afraid to check on your dress every now and again (no not every week ladies!!). Once a year you should take it out of the box and refold it with some fresh acid-free tissue paper.
