Once Upon A Time: Sonya + Gavin's NYE Wedding

A true Cinderella fairytale – the bride even traveled by horse and carriage! This spectacular New Year’s Eve wedding is giving us serious princess envy.

Stunning bride Sonya pulled out all the stops when it came to marrying her love Gavin, celebrating with a lavish party at Ballymascanlon House Hotel where their parents held their wedding receptions in 1977 and 1979. Every detail was carefully planned with Sonya even designing her own own wedding dress. The glittering ballgown featured intricate beading and embellishments along the bodice that complemented the sheer magic of the festive season perfectly. Her main ladies supported her in sequined numbers and the couple’s adorable flower girls were pretty as a picture with little ballerina bun hairstyles and cozy fur coats to keep them warm from the winter chill. The epitome of everything a Christmas wedding should be, we know all our 2017 and 2018 Christmas brides-to-be will get lots of inspiration from this glamorous day!

The Proposal…

“In 2011 we were on a holiday in Las Vegas when Gavin popped the question during a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon. As we winged our way over the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, I had no idea what was going to happen! I was just shocked, stunned and amazed – and of course I said yes!”

The Dress…

“Having that one chance to have a fairytale wedding accompanied by horse & carriage, it was without doubt that I had to have a princess ball gown style dress! For dancing in the later hours my tulle skirt was removed and a sexy straight skirt was attached. I designed the dress myself and with the help of my mammy we made it perfect in every way. For the time of year, glitz and glam was the perfect style for my three bridesmaids. We chose black, gold and silver to complement our New Year’s Eve theme.”

On The Photographer…

“After having put a lot of thought and research into finding the right wedding photographer, we were exciting to meet Mario from PhotoMV. After a few moments of dealing with Mario, he did not feel like a stranger, it was like he was part of the wedding party! His professionalism was amazing, his fun attitude towards his job made everyone relaxed around him. From his first shot to seeing his finished photos, we were delighted with our chosen photographer!”

The Wedding Theme…

“Using all our own ideas, we created a New Year’s Eve party theme. Seeing it all come together was amazing for us! From the black, gold & silver props to the matching décor, it gave us the WOW factor we wanted! The 12 o’clock countdown complete with exploding balloons was a perfect way to ring in the New Year for all!”

“A big thank you to my uncle Joe Moran for the organising and set up of all our extra props in the venue on the day itself. And to my husband Gavin for making our handmade props including; our wedding post box, NYE letter lights and Ferrero Rocher love heart stand.”
