We Love: Doilies

We Love: Doilies

Maybe it’s an Irish thing, but we’ve always been in love with doilies. It’s funny how doilies can take on any look from rustic chic, vintage or just simply elegant. In their most basic form, they’re just an ornamental mat, knitted or crocheted from cotton or linen.

Personally, my memories of them involve my nan’s protective doilies used to make sure the china teapot wouldn’t burn or scratch the fine-wood table.

Nowadays, doilies can get used for so many different aspects of décor. From a fun table runner, bunting or invitations, there are great ideas for doilies out there. If you too are a self proclaimed doily lover, we have found some great ways to work them into your wedding!

Wreath

Paper doilies are so ethereal and perfect for making a chic wreath! This is definitely a paper doily DIY project we’d love to do, plus how gorgeous would this look come winter? We found a fantastic tutorial on Martha Stewart’s website that we are itching to try!

Place mats Doilies or wedding menus

This is quite an easy but nonetheless lovely way of incorporating doilies into the décor. Simply glue the doily to the circled menu card for a gorgeous motif.

Bunting

Get your day looking rustic chic with this fun idea. All you need is some string and well, doilies! Bring this look into your colour theme by dying them with some Dylon.
