Choosing our wedding venue was one of the most important things for us to get right! We wanted something a little bit different and somewhere that had a real wow factor!
We had seen a number of castles that were beautiful, but ultimately the wedding would be held in a function room connected to the castle (which was a 5min walk away and disconnected from the bedrooms!) Not what we wanted!
When we saw Markree we knew we had found our dream location. It was amazing!
First impressions count and from the beautiful drive into the castle, the excitement as the building itself was revealed, to the entrance staircase that lead into the warm reception room and open fire crackling to greet us - We knew we were onto a winner!
When I saw the dining room, with duck egg blue walls and ornate gold decorative plaster up the walls, I knew that this was where I wanted to have our first meal as husband and wife. It's like something out of Downton Abbey - Absolutely magical!
The sitting room area of the Castle is turned into your dance floor on the night and the bar is just off the sitting room. We felt like we were throwing a classy house party...in a CASTLE!
As Markree is such a small castle and the staff are so welcoming we instantly felt at home. The bridal suite is at the top of the stairs. On the day it was so easy to pop upstairs and freshen up which was invaluable.
We were so excited by Markree that we got into dates and packages immediately. When we had it booked we realized that we had not tried any food! All our worries were put to bed during our menu tasting. The food was presented beautifully, tasted fantastic and surpassed our expectations!
The wedding co-ordinators Jeremy and Simon were lovely to deal with. They went through everything step by step and any concerns we had were no problem. They made it easy!
Choosing Markree for our wedding day was the perfect choice for us and our only regret is that we cannot do it all over again. It was a dream come true! :)
