Mood Board: Blue Wedding Dresses

If the fashion forecast is anything to go by, blue wedding dresses are going to be a big trend this year! In 2012 we saw the popularity of the blush pink wedding dress increase over the months, with celebrities such as Jessica Biel taking to the trend too! Could you see yourself as a bride in blue?

It seems that this is not the first time blue wedding dresses have found their place in the spotlight. In ancient times, the traditional Irish bride often wore a blue wedding dress which symbolized purity. It was only in 1499 when the white wedding dress became the symbol for virginity and purity. This was at a time where the royal courts decided upon the fashion and when Queen Anne of France, wore white at her third wedding she inspired women across England, Ireland and France. Brides began to follow in the footsteps of the queen and white dresses to their own wedding.

The pale blue wedding dress, as we see above in Elie Saab’s S/S 2012/13 collection, is an easy shade to wear as it is not too brightly coloured or in stark contrast to a white or ivory gown. any Gossip Girl fans might recognise the  second dress in as the wedding gown fashionista Blair Waldorf wore in the series finale when she married her high school sweetheart Chuck Bass. I wouldn’t mind wearing a blue wedding dress if it meant I was going to get my hands on one of those stunning designs!

Wearing a blue wedding dress will also mean you no longer have to worry about that all important ‘something blue’. Is it a safer bet to stick with a traditional white or ivory gown? Or is the blue wedding dress a stylish trend set to stay which you would consider? I’m sure the year ahead will soon tell!
