Venue Overview

Kinsale, Cork
Ballinacurra House is an Exclusive Use Private Residence, set within a walled garden with 10 foot-high stone walls, security gates and 40 acres of woodland and lawns, this elegant country mansion brings back old-world opulence and personal service in a unique and totally private environment . One of our key benefits is that we are on the doorstep of one of Ireland’s premier tourist towns – Kinsale.

Ballinacurra House has been voted the Best Exclusive Hire Property by the Luxury Travel Awards and is perfect for both small intimate weddings and larger celebrations.  We are not a hotel where you would be sharing the venue with anyone else – we are your own unique country estate and only ever Strictly Private.  If you are looking for something other than a “factory packaged wedding”, we offer you the privacy and freedom to plan your day as you please.  It is the biggest day of your life and should reflect your own personal style – whether it be a more traditional wedding or something simple, fun or unique.

Ballinacurra House is located a five minute drive away from the “Ultimate wedding destination” of Kinsale, a heritage town with its spectacular harbour, forts and culinary reputation which contributes to the “destination wedding” atmosphere.

With over 30 years of event planning experience, the owners Des and Lisa McGahan work attentively with you to plan your wedding, manage your budget and lend their expertise to design a bespoke private wedding that is unique to your taste and style.  We have also handpicked a team of professional and personable staff including your own in-house wedding advisor, private Gourmet Chef, maitre d’ and service staff to cater to your every need.

The manor house was built in the late 1700’s with its first recorded owner of John Swete Esquire, the High Sheriff of Cork.  The House was completely renovated from 2000 – 2003 to its current modern standards.

Every room in the house has been meticulously themed and offers 22 suites throughout the Main house, Cottage and Coach House as well as various lounge and entertainment rooms.

Whether you are looking for an elegant formal sit down dinner for your Wedding Day, a casual family rehearsal dinner the night before or a fun barbecue for your ‘recovery day’, we have many different dining options.

We have decided to limit the maximum number of people to around 120 people (which fit comfortably into our Garden Room) rather than the larger weddings.

wedding on Thu, 22nd of August, 2019
Ryan is from sunny southern California and Kjersten is from Utah. We met in Boston where Ryan was working through his PhD and medical school and Kjersten was working as a nurse. Within a few months of meeting, we both knew we would get married. After dating for 2 years, we finally got to take the

trip we had been talking about since our 1st date, a road trip around Ireland. While there Ryan fulfilled his elaborate plan and proposed to Kjersten In Killarney national park. She was shocked and taken off guard but very much in agreement.

We were trying to decide on the location of our wedding and if we would do it in New York where we now live or out west near all of our family. We were feeling overwhelmed and started thinking of destination ideas. After a quick internet search, we came to realize that Ireland was one of the top places for destination weddings. It felt like a no brainer for us and so we quickly searched out venues that had everything figured out for us. We came across Ballinacurra house on a photographers website, fell in love with the pictures and views of Kinsale and emailed to see if there was availability. Ballinacurra was very quick to respond and had an entire video for the grounds as well as pricing and informational videos from previous couples. In honesty we were hesitant about the cost because we were doing the wedding ourselves and are grad students but after we laid out the cost and places we could cut back on, we decided that a venue where most of our family/friends could stay and the reviews were all glowing must be worth it. We secured with a deposit and thankfully the staff was able to organize a food tasting around the time we were doing our visit to the clerks office for paperwork. After the tasting, seeing the grounds, meeting the staff, we were 110% sold.

I loved getting ready on site with all of my girls, it was chaos but a blast. Everything on site was coordinated and managed in a behind the scenes flawless way, they have this

From the moment we set foot in Ballinacurra House we knew it was the ideal wedding venue for us. The interior of the house is so unique, charming and full of character. We were lucky enough to have our ceremony outside and the grounds are spectacular. All our amazing photos were taken on site. It

was more that we could have hoped for. All the staff are so attentive and professional and made us feel at home from the beginning. From day one Orela helped us every step of the way. Nothing was a problem and she was always on hand to offer some advice and guidance. She made our lives so stress -free and as a result we enjoyed every second of the day. We trusted her implicitly and she didn’t disappoint! Her attention to detail is second to none. There was huge transparency when it came to the budget which meant no surprises at checkout. The day was tailormade to suit our budget and tweaked to our needs. The food is exceptional, what you would expect of a fine dining restaurant. We had been to a tasting day beforehand so lots of attention went into choosing the menu with advice available from the head chef David. We decided to go for the four-course tasting menu which was delicious! All our guests with dietary requirements were well catered for. We decided to go for midnight pizzas and they went down a treat. The Cuban cocktail bar was a huge hit and the bar staff were fantastic. James is super, such a pleasure to deal with. Our families and friends were hugely complimentary on the whole day which was fantastic to hear. We would definitely recommend Ballinacurra House for your wedding or any special occasion. It’s a hidden gem! Emer and Mark August 201

Absolutely incredible venue! The house itself is beautiful and so unique – the themed rooms became such a talking point amongst our guests and really added to the personal touch we wanted for our day. The food was outstanding – so many guests said it was the best meal they had ever had at a

wedding. Everything was so beautifully presented and such good quality. What really set Ballinacurra apart for us however was the level of service. The staff are OUT OF THIS WORLD. So professional and friendly to all of our guests – they knew everyone's name and nothing was too much trouble. We've never experienced service like it, they were just unbelievable. We will never forget their kindness.

The whole weekend went off superbly & we couldn't have been happier. We were blown away by the level of service & professionalism of every staff member we met.
I always wanted the wedding to have a "house party" feel, laid back but fun, and it certainly was. Rory & I, and indeed all our guests had

But a real thank you to you Mary for all your emails, advice, support & organising in the lead up to the day & on the day itself! You have been really wonderful & made the journey so easy!

Huge appreciation for the impeccable service we reviewed the whole weekend, especially from James, Elaine, Stuart, and the lovely head bar man (slim, Brown hair, very smiley) whose name I can't remember!

guests from NY and Cork an experience..And Ballinacurra did not disappoint. The food was EXQUISITE. David is BRILLIANT.
6weeks later and my guests are still raving about the presentation, the taste, the generous portions that were laid before them on our wedding day.
The midnight snacks were out of this world..My palette savored every bite of the Thai Red Curry and Steak Sandwiches.

The Veuve Clicquot Champagne Cocktail Hour…I can’t say enough about the décor..the tables, chairs, umbrellas, flutes..what an experience you gave
Everyone after our ceremony. People are still talking about the Fish and Chips passed Hors d'oeuvre. It was incredible.

The Cuban bar ..It’s a hidden gem on the property. From Fergus in his Fedora and Tropical print shirt to the Cuban cocktails tasting like it came straight out of Havana ..Everyone
Absolutely LOVED our Caribbean infused BBQ.

As for the staff..SIMPLY THE BEST I’ve ever seen and ever worked with. I’m still amazed how all the staff knew my guests first names. Everyone
was blown away at how personable the staff was. It’s the simple things like knowing a name that makes a lasting impression. Every staff member was
kind and genuinely sincere with the warmest smiles. They made our day special. A big THANK YOU TO ALL OF THEM!!!!
